Control for web teams versus convenience for business owners

Webflow vs Squarespace: a web-design system or a finished business platform?

Webflow gives designers and marketers a deep system for building the site. Squarespace gives the business a finished set of tools around it. Both can look excellent; the operating model decides the winner.

Choose Webflow when
  • A custom marketing platform with a large, structured content model
  • Design and marketing teams that need exact responsive control and advanced interactions
  • Organizations prepared to budget separately for site hosting, workspace capability, seats and add-ons
Choose Squarespace when
  • An owner-operated business that wants a polished site without a specialist web team
  • A service company using scheduling, invoices, payments and email around the website
  • A creator or shop that values an integrated publishing and selling workflow over maximum layout control

Webflow gives you a system to design; Squarespace gives you a system that is already designed

Webflow exposes element hierarchy, reusable classes, responsive layout, interactions and CMS structure on a visual canvas. A skilled builder can create a bespoke design system without hand-writing every line, and marketers can then work with content inside those boundaries.

Squarespace begins with more settled opinions. Blueprint AI or a template establishes a coherent base, while Fluid Engine lets the owner move and layer blocks within a responsive grid. There is less room to engineer the underlying system and less need to do so before publishing a credible site.

Webflow's headline price is only one layer of the bill

A Webflow Site plan pays for the public site and its domain. Workspace plans affect staging, collaboration, AI capacity and code export, while seats and add-ons can sit alongside both. The new Basic and Premium Site plans are clearer than the old lineup, but a team should still model the full combination.

Squarespace bundles managed hosting into every paid website plan and presents a simpler progression. Separate products such as email campaigns or advanced scheduling can still add cost, but a sole owner can understand the first invoice more quickly. Annual plans also include a new domain free for the first year, not forever.

Webflow wins content architecture; Squarespace wins the nearby business work

Webflow Premium now includes 20,000 CMS items and 40 collections, with APIs, code components and a visual content workflow. It is the more capable foundation for a resource library, publication, directory or multi-team marketing estate with a deliberate schema.

Squarespace's content tools are less architectural but sit beside commerce, gated content, appointments, client records, invoices and campaigns. A photographer or consultancy may gain more from those connected workflows than from another 19,000 CMS items.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask

Is Webflow harder to use than Squarespace?

Yes for most beginners. Webflow asks the builder to understand more about page structure, layout and content systems. Squarespace narrows those decisions, which makes a polished small-business launch faster.

Which is cheaper, Webflow or Squarespace?

Webflow Basic starts at $15 monthly on annual billing, while Squarespace starts at $19. Webflow Basic has no CMS, and Workspace plans, seats or add-ons may be needed. Compare the complete setup rather than the lowest Site-plan number.

Which has the better CMS?

Webflow. Its Premium plan supports a much deeper structured-content model, visual templates and APIs. Squarespace is simpler for a normal blog, portfolio or member publication and connects those formats neatly to its commerce tools.

Can I export my website?

Webflow paid Workspaces can export static HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets, but dynamic Webflow services do not come with them. Squarespace exports only certain content in WordPress XML. Neither export recreates a complete dynamic site elsewhere.
