Side by side
The differences that change the decision
| Factor | Framer | Webflow |
|---|---|---|
| Learning curve | Familiar to product and visual designers; quick direct manipulation and responsive layout. | Closer to visual HTML and CSS; more concepts, more control and more ways to build a system. |
| Free site | Free Framer domain, 1 GB bandwidth and a Made in Framer banner; no custom domain. | webflow.io domain, 2 static pages, limited CMS, 1 GB bandwidth and 50 form submissions. |
| Custom-domain entry | Basic is $10 monthly on annual billing, with 30 pages and 2 CMS collections. | Basic is $15 monthly on annual billing for up to 300 static pages but no CMS. |
| CMS plan | Pro is $30 monthly on annual billing with 10 collections and 2,500 CMS items before add-ons. | Premium is $25 monthly on annual billing with 20,000 CMS items and 40 collections. |
| Interactions | Strong visual effects, component variants and animation with a design-tool feel. | Detailed element structure plus timeline-based, conditional actions and interactions. |
| Code export | No HTML or static-site export for self-hosting. | Paid Workspace plans export HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets, but not working CMS, ecommerce, search or form services. |
| Team model | Site plan plus paid design or content editor seats; viewers are free. | Site hosting, Workspace capabilities and seats are separate plan axes for most self-serve teams. |
- A startup marketing site, portfolio or campaign that needs to look distinctive quickly
- Designers who want Figma-like directness and marketers who edit on the page
- A modest CMS where speed and polish matter more than deep content architecture
- A content-heavy marketing estate with structured collections and reusable templates
- Teams that think in CSS structure, responsive systems and detailed interaction timelines
- A static site that may need code export, with the export limitations understood
Framer feels like a design tool; Webflow teaches the browser
Framer makes it easy to place, style and animate a polished page without making every designer reason through the document tree. Components, breakpoints and a direct canvas make the jump from product-design tools relatively short.
Webflow's canvas is visual, but its hierarchy, classes and layout controls map more visibly to HTML and CSS. That asks more of the builder and returns more systematic control. For a design team maintaining dozens of templates, the discipline can be an asset rather than overhead.
The new pricing makes the CMS decision unusually clear
Framer Basic is inexpensive for a custom-domain site but stops at two CMS collections. Pro raises that to ten collections and 2,500 items, with add-ons available for larger needs. It suits a blog, work archive or resource library that remains closely tied to the visual site.
Webflow's 2026 Premium Site plan is $25 monthly on annual billing and consolidates its former CMS and Business plans. It includes 20,000 items and 40 collections, plus search and code components. That is much more headroom for structured publishing, although the Workspace and seat model still needs its own budget line.
Webflow's export is useful, but it is not a full platform escape hatch
Framer is unambiguous: a published site cannot be downloaded as a standalone HTML bundle. Its rendering, image optimization, server-side work and hosting are part of the product. Buy it as a managed destination.
Webflow exports HTML, CSS, JavaScript and assets from a paid Workspace, and the static result can run without attribution. The export excludes CMS behavior and data binding, ecommerce, user accounts, search, protected pages and Webflow form handling. For a static campaign that may be enough; for a dynamic estate it is not a one-click migration.
