Website builder chooser

Start with the job. Then pick the tool.

The best website builder for a restaurant owner is rarely the best one for a developer rebuilding a landing page. Sort the market by starting point, output and who has to run the site next week.

Four kinds of builder

The market makes more sense in four boxes.

Buying checklist

Ask these before you enter a card number.

1

What do I get out?

A hosted page, portable code, a full app or a CMS are not interchangeable deliverables.

2

What keeps costing?

Separate subscriptions, usage credits, hosting, collaborators, domains and commerce fees.

3

Who edits it later?

A developer may prefer code. A marketing team may be happier with a visual CMS. Decide before you build.

Questions people actually ask

What is the best website builder?

There is no useful single winner. Copycat is strongest when you have a reference URL and want an editable Next.js landing page. Lovable, Replit, Bolt and v0 are broader app-building workspaces. Framer, Webflow, Wix and Squarespace are stronger when you want a managed visual editor, CMS or business suite.

Which website builders are free?

Lovable, Replit, Bolt, v0, Framer, Webflow and Wix currently have some form of free access, but limits differ sharply. Squarespace offers a 14-day trial rather than a permanent free plan. Check the vendor page before committing because allowances change.

Do I need an AI website builder?

Not necessarily. AI helps when you are generating or changing code from instructions. A visual builder can be easier for ongoing content edits, and a website copier is faster when the desired starting point already exists.

Can I own and export the code?

That depends on the product. Copycat delivers editable Next.js. Code-oriented tools such as Lovable, Replit, Bolt and v0 also support code workflows. Managed visual builders vary, so check export and hosting terms before building.

Your answer is a URL?

If you already know the website you want to use as a starting point, you may not need a general builder at all.
