A focused design platform against an all-purpose business builder

Framer vs Wix: better design canvas or broader business toolkit?

Framer makes fewer kinds of website and gives designers a better time making them. Wix covers far more of the business behind the website. Decide whether the hard part is presentation or operations.

Framer is a website tool; Wix is closer to a business operating kit

Framer concentrates on the public site: composition, responsive behavior, animation, CMS content, localization and publishing. Its smaller surface helps design teams move quickly and makes the end result feel less governed by a general-purpose business template.

Wix stretches from the website into inventory, checkout, bookings, memberships, events, customer records and marketing. That breadth can make the editor feel busier, but it removes real integration work for a salon, consultant, shop or venue. Those are not secondary features if they run the business.

Both let you publish free; neither gives a business its own domain free

Framer Free publishes to a Framer domain with branding and a small bandwidth allowance. Basic is listed at $10 monthly on annual billing, includes a custom domain, and allows 30 pages and two CMS collections. More editors and larger CMS needs can change the real total.

Wix also lets a site stay live free on a branded wixsite.com address. Connecting a domain and removing Wix branding require a paid plan. Wix localizes pricing and frequently presents term-based promotions, so use the checkout for your country and compare the renewal price, not a search-result coupon.

Neither is a source-code handoff

Framer says its published sites depend on managed rendering and optimization, so there is no standalone HTML export. Wix says its sites rely on proprietary SaaS services and must run on Wix infrastructure. In both cases, you are buying an ongoing platform, not receiving a portable codebase.

That does not mean your content disappears into a black box, but a future rebuild is not the same as moving a folder to a new host. Keep a separate archive of original copy, images, product data and domain access. If deployable source code is a firm requirement, neither should be the final platform.

Straight answers

Questions people actually ask

Is Framer better than Wix?

Framer is usually better for a design-led marketing site. Wix is usually better for a business that needs built-in ecommerce, scheduling, membership, customer and marketing tools. They optimize for different owners.

Is Framer or Wix free?

Both have ongoing free plans and branded subdomain publishing. Neither free plan connects your custom domain or removes all platform branding.

Which is better for ecommerce?

Wix. It has native storefront, checkout, payments, inventory, multichannel sales and store-management tools. Framer can present products beautifully, but commerce is not its central operating system.

Can I export my Framer or Wix website code?

No. Framer does not export published sites as HTML bundles, and Wix says its sites must run on Wix servers. Export your original content and business data regularly even if you expect to stay.
