Side by side
The differences that change the decision
| Factor | Bolt | v0 |
|---|---|---|
| Starting material | A natural-language brief, images or a GitHub-connected project. | A prompt, screenshot, Figma design, ZIP, GitHub repository or Vercel project. |
| Strongest stack | JavaScript web apps in a browser runtime, plus Expo for mobile and Bolt Cloud services. | Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind, shadcn/ui and the Vercel marketplace. |
| Free generation | 300,000 tokens daily and 1 million monthly, using the Standard model. | $5 of monthly credits and no more than 7 messages a day. |
| Paid entry | Pro starts at $25 a month with 10 million tokens and no daily token limit. | Plus is $30 per user each month with $30 of monthly credit per user and $2 of daily login credit. |
| Full stack | Built-in databases, auth, file storage, secrets, server functions and hosting in Bolt Cloud. | Next.js server routes plus database, storage, queue and AI services from Vercel integrations. |
| Git workflow | Automatic GitHub backup and history; code can be downloaded and hosted elsewhere. | Imports existing repositories, creates per-chat branches and commits, then opens pull requests from the workspace. |
| Deployment | Free bolt.host publishing, with custom domains and badge removal on paid plans. | One-click production deployments to Vercel; code can be exported to another host. |
- A new full-stack app whose owner wants database and hosting in the same account
- A prompt-led Expo app targeting web, iOS and Android
- Someone who values a concrete free token and traffic allowance
- An existing Next.js repository that should retain a normal branch and PR workflow
- Teams with a shadcn/ui registry or established Tailwind design system
- Projects already deployed on Vercel or using its marketplace integrations
Bolt owns the workspace; v0 joins the repository
Bolt is compelling when there is no setup to preserve. The prompt produces a running project, Bolt Cloud can add the database when needed, and Publish creates a live bolt.host URL. GitHub and ZIP export are available when the project outgrows that self-contained beginning.
v0 is just as happy starting fresh, but its 2026 workflow is especially good at entering existing work. Import a repository, let each chat operate on its own branch, review automatic commits and open a pull request. That makes it easier to place v0 inside a team's controls instead of placing the team inside a new builder.
v0 is opinionated about the modern Vercel stack
v0 defaults to Next.js and explicitly supports React Server Components, server actions, API routes, Tailwind and shadcn/ui. Database and storage integrations arrive through Vercel. A team that already chose those tools gets useful context instead of generic code.
Bolt's browser environment is broader about JavaScript frameworks and simpler about infrastructure. Its built-in database covers common auth, table, file and function needs, and Expo gives it a credible mobile story. Choose that flexibility deliberately; do not ask either tool to rewrite the stack merely to win a feature checklist.
The free numbers look incompatible because they are
Bolt counts model tokens and gives Free users 300,000 per day up to 1 million per month. The number looks enormous, but Bolt explains that project files consume much of the context. Its own quickstart can use almost one full daily allowance.
v0 denominates usage in dollars of credit. Free includes $5 monthly and imposes a seven-message daily limit. Plus costs $30 per user with $30 monthly credit and daily login credit. The only fair trial is the same bounded feature in each product, followed by a look at the actual usage ledger.
