Lovable narrows the job; Replit widens it
Lovable calls itself a full-stack development platform, but the experience is tightly organized around one useful loop: describe the web product, inspect the result, ask for changes and publish. That restraint is an advantage when the buyer wants an app, not a tour of a development environment.
Replit's Agent now works across web apps, mobile apps, designs, slides, data visualizations and other files. The same project can hold several outputs that share a backend. That makes Replit more adaptable, although a first-time site owner has more concepts to absorb before the workspace feels simple.
Both give you code, but only one begins as a general coding workspace
New Lovable projects use TanStack Start with server-side rendering; older projects use React and Vite with prerendering. You own the generated code and can create a two-way Git connection, work locally and deploy elsewhere. The catch is at the beginning: Lovable's documentation says an existing GitHub repository cannot currently be imported to start a project.
Replit puts the code and the tools used to run it in the foreground. Agent can plan, write, test and repair work while you inspect files, use the shell and roll back checkpoints. That is the more natural arrangement when developers will take over early or the project already has engineering habits to preserve.
The free plans ration different things
Lovable gives a precise free build allowance: five daily build credits, but only 30 in a month. Separate grants cover a small amount of Cloud use and AI called by the live app. Because Default Mode is complexity-priced, a credit is not a fixed number of prompts.
Replit advertises free daily Agent credits without publishing a fixed daily quantity on the public pricing page. Starter also includes a built-in database and one published app, although its badged link goes down after 30 days and must be republished. Core costs $20 a month when billed annually and includes $25 of monthly usage credits. In either product, monitor usage once real visitors and background services arrive; a subscription headline is not a ceiling on operating cost.
